What Metro-North weekly ticket should I buy to ride the whole system?
I want to ride the entire Metro-North system for several days and want the most expensive weekly ticket so I dont have to buy anything else. According to their site, Grand Central-Wassaic is the most expensive, but GC-Waterbury is the farthest. Ive read that New Haven line tickets are priced differently than in-state NY tickets. Which should I get so I can ride to all stations?
Answer: Metro North has several different lines: the big three are the Harlem Line, the Hudson Line and the New Haven Line. You can purchase tickets for each individual line, but there are no tickets that will permit you to ride all of the lines. A good deal of ridership on Metro North is for commuting, and people really don't require any sort of ticket for all of the lines.
Wassaic is on the Harlem Line, and Waterbury is a branch off of the New Haven Line. So if you want to visit both stations, you'd have to buy two different tickets. Really it depends on what your intentions are. Are you looking to sightsee? Do you have time to purchase tickets in advance? If you purchase online, tickets are cheaper. If you want to sightsee, I would suggest taking the ride to Wassaic. Honestly, Waterbury is really not all that interesting of a station to visit. If you want to experience the New Haven Line, I'd take a ride to New Haven's Union Station.

Cashing Out
THERE is a well-worn path between New York City and the surrounding suburbs. Over the years, many New Yorkers have made the move, looking for safer streets, better schools, bigger houses and more room to grow. Now another group is making the trek, and the reason is more squarely focused on money. Shore Line East train service expanded in the 1990s to coax commuters east of New Haven out of their cars. where is a safe city on the hudson metro north line that is not too far from poughkeepsie?
My Boyfriends job is relocating to Poughkeepsie. We are looking for an apartment but are not familiar with the area. Ive heard a lot of the surrounding areas tend to be less than desirable. Where is a nice, clean, safe town not too far from the Metro-North Hudson Line?
Answer: Beacon is pretty nice (and about 30 minutes away). Peekskill is a little less so, but still nice (about 45 minutes away).

How do you transfer on the Metro-North Railroad?
Hello, well see, I want to go to Fordham from the New Haven line. I went to the website and it says I have to transfer at Stamford. I dont understand what that means. Do I have to buy a separate ticket? Do I need to do anything else other than get on a different train? If I do have to get on, how? Do I just wait? Ive never transfered on the Metro-North before. Please help. Thanks.
Answer: as others have said, you don't have to buy a separate ticket or anything. buy your ticket to fordham, and get on your train, and once you get to stamford, there should be an announcement to get off. then you just.. well, get off, and then wait for your connecting train. if you're confused, just follow the other people/ask, they'll most likely do this all the time. once you get on the connecting train, the conductor will just punch your ticket again. :)
sorry i'm kind of long winded.

how do you get to the bronx zoo from New Haven Metro north?
Im taking metro north from New Haven CT and would i get off at Grand Central or Fordham? & How would i get to the zoo from there? Thanks!
Answer: Get off at Fordham. From there, you have a couple of options:
* Take the Bx12 bus (local or +SBS+ to White Plains Road) and use that entrance to the zoo.
* Take the Bx9 bus to West 180th Street/Boston Road and use that entrance.
You can also save the money and just walk about a mile (20 minutes) to the Fordham Road entrance of the zoo from Fordham.
I hope this information was very helpful.

Is there any bus going to Ossining from grand central/42nd except the metro North?
Because Metro North is too expensve. Are there any subway then bus transfers? Thanks.
Answer: The absolute cheapest way would be to take the Bronx-bound (4) train to Woodlawn, and then take the BL-20 or BL-21 bus up to White Plains. From there, take the BL-11, BL-13, or BL-14 up to Ossining. If you get on the BL-13, make sure it says "Ossining" instead of "Tarrytown".
The travel time from White Plains to Ossining is about an hour on the BL-13 and BL-14 (maybe the BL-13 takes a bit longer), and it's about 45-50 minutes on the BL-11.
You would get a free subway-bus transfer, but you'd have to pay for the second Bee-Line bus at White Plains.
I hope this information was very helpful.

How do I buy a Metro-North ticket into NYC for New Years Eve?
I will be heading into Grand Central from Brewster, NY on Dec 31st and I cant figure out how to book tickets on the Metro-North website. I know you can buy them at the ticket machines, but is there no way to reserve them ahead of time? What about from Grand Central back to Brewster, NY? I would love to reserve tickets so I dont find myself stuck in New York City.
Answer: Unfortunately, my friend, Metro-North is a commuter railroad operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. This means it the dose not have the booking capacity like Amtrak, which is the national intercity train operator. This is the reason why you can't book a ticket online and reserve a seat.
Now, with that, the only option is to go to the Brewster Metro-North station, which is located right in the center of town, and purchase a round trip off-peak ticket from either the ticket machine or the ticket window. A round trip off-peak ticket from Brewster to Grand Central and back will cost you $24.50.
You can purchase your round trip off-peak ticket days in advance. Its good for 90 after purchase, which means you have three months to use it.
I hope this information

Can college students get a job at Metro North?
Im a college freshman & Im very reliant on trains to travel, so it was a thought that I could probably work for Metro North as a conductor or something. You know, the person who collects the tickets & tells the people where to go. I figure maybe I could do that, but Im not sure if Metro North hires college students, but I heard it pays its employees very well & that people that work there get a discount, which would be very nice for me. Im a full time college student, so I would need to work part time, a few days a week. Is it possible?
Answer: good idea

New to NY. If I get a monthly metro card will it work for the metro north as well?

how to get to grand central from Ossinning Westchester with the exception of Metro North trains? Like bus?
Metro North is so expensive, are there any buses or other form of railways going to the city? Thanks
Answer: I agree Metro-North trains are much faster than Bee-Line Buses.
Like in major holiday when Bee-Line buses don't run on Thanksgiving and Christmas day, so during that day, Metro-North will be only available option.
Bee-Line Buses are same fare as NYC Bus and Subway at base fare of $2.25 excluding BxM4C.
From Ossinning, you could take Route #13 Port Chester, Route #14 White Plains to Westchester County Center.
Transfer to Bee-Line BxM4C express which is $7.50 one way. Due to fare difference you must have $7.50 in separate Regular MetroCard or in coins. Any Unlimited MetroCard cannot be used on BxM4C.
Bee-Line BxM4C take you directly to 5th Av/43rd St.
However, if you take Bee-Line Route #20/21 Bedford Park, you do not have to paid $7.50 extra, however transfer require to (4) train at Woodlawn, where (4) takes you to Grand Central.

How do I get from yonkers to Manhattan without taking the metro north?
How can i get from yonkers to manahttan without having to use the metro north (it would save me so much money if I could just use my metrocard)? I live at Gramatan and Palmer and it is on a Bee Line route (the 30 I think). Is there any way I can take a series of buses to get to a subway station (maybe the woodlawn station?) so I can bypass the metro north?
Answer: if you can get to the 20 bus it takes you to the 4 train which goes to the city. but does that really save that much money? it is 2.25 for the subway and i think 2.00 for the bus. is metronorth really that much more money? I know from woodlawn i bought a 10 trip pass for 42.50 so its only 4.25 to get to grand central.
