When a wrecking ball hits a wall, it is not moving fast. How can it have enough momentum to knock down a wall?
When a wrecking ball hits a wall, it is not moving fast. How can it have enough momentum to knock down a wall?
Answer: the other half of the momentum equation is *mass*
a train might have a low speed (say 5mph), but if your car hits it head on while going 100mph, the train will not slow down one bit.
so this about the *combination* of mass and speed.

Do your dogs go into wrecking ball mode?
I have a Basset Hound and this is very rare but once in a great while hell go into wrecking ball mode! Meanings he jumps around barks howls and jumps in my recliner and almost makes it fall over so I was just wondering what your dogs did? Oh plus after every time my chiweenie eats shell just start rolling all over the ground and starts biting people and stuff.
Answer: MacKenzie...
Well...and I'm sure everyone experiences this...my dogs get into the "Charge of the Light Brigade" mode (also known as "the zoomies"). When they do, I always accompany them with my vocal bugle as follows:

Because it is so difficult - Editorial commends residents for helping to establish third historic district in Greenwich, Conn, and decries inability to form another one in Cos Cob
what movie is this!? kids movie, house got wrecked by wrecking ball, leprechaun or magical creature possibly?
Im really annoyed because I cant think of this movie.
All I remember was that there was a little boy who was the main character and something about a house almost (or did) getting torn down by a wrecking ball.
Answer: Sounds so familar the only movie I can think of is "A Simple Wish" and I can't remember hardly anything in it except that it's a girl not a boy. Sorry if that is of no help.

I want to remove a tattoo & heard of "Wrecking Ball" has anyone tried that product,I like to know if it works?
I went to the (wrecking ball) website and read good yet negative comments about it,so now i like opinions/comments out of the website.I want to know before i decided to get Laser on it...Thank You
Answer: Wrecking Balm is a scam. Typically with that kind of product they offer the cream and a concealer both being very costly. The only way a cream could actually remove a tattoo would be to chemically burn it out. It's too deep for a cream to dissolve without ruining the skin above it. The ads for those creams usually have a disclaimer under the before and after saying "results not typical, results with cream and concealer". Pretty much the scam is sell a regular old cream and claim lies for it and sell a cover up that will conceal it.

By how much has the gravitational potential energy of the ball changed?
A 1400kg Wrecking Ball hangs from a 12m -long cable. The ball is pulled back until the cable makes an angle of 30.0 degrees with the vertical.
By how much has the gravitational potential energy of the ball changed?
Answer: From the geometry of the situation, the 12 m-long cable forms the hypotenuse of a right triangle, with the longer of the other two sides of length 12 m * cos(30 deg), which is about 10.4 m. Thus, the ball has risen by 12 m - 10.4 m = 1.6 m.
The potential energy will have changed by m*g*h, which is 1400 kg * 9.8 m/s^2 * 1.6 m , or about 22000 J.

How much to rent a wrecking ball?
Ive looked up a lot of demolition rental sites and cant manage to find anyone who supplies wrecking balls. Im only looking for pricing, not planning any demolition so dont worry about the details. Just a figure and preferably a source for that price. I found out many demo suppliers dont use balls anymore, does anyone still know of a place that does?
Answer: never been able to rent one could never insure. do not use anymore. not safe. take way to long to get building down. grapplers / shears can grap a chunk of building and put into truck or recycle piles. I would imagine some countries still use them. if still used around 4 grand delivery, $1200-$1500 hr to run. requires 3 people

What speed vf does the ball have when the cable makes an angle of 19.1 ° with respect to the vertical?
A wrecking ball swings at the end of a 12.0-m cable on a vertical circular arc. The crane operator manages to give the ball a speed of 12.3 m/s as the ball passes through the lowest point of its swing and then gives the ball no further assistance. Friction and air resistance are negligible. What speed vf does the ball have when the cable makes an angle of 19.1 ° with respect to the vertical?
Answer: Solution:
Energy conservation:
1/2 mu2 = 1/2 mv2 + mgh
simplify n remove mass m
u2 = v2 +2gh
where u = 12.3 m/s ; g = 10m/s2 ; h= 12 -12 cos 19.1 =0.66 m
final speed v2 = 12.3 *12.3 -2* 10* 0.66 = 151.29 - 13.2 = 138
v = 11.78 m/s

By how much has the gravitational potential energy of the ball changed?
A 1400kg wrecking ball hangs from a 16m -long cable. The ball is pulled back until the cable makes an angle of 30.0 degrees with the vertical.
Answer: Increase in vertical height is
h = 16 - 16cos30 m = 2.14 m
So the increase in GPE is
GPE = m*g*h = 1400 * 9.81 * 2.14 J = 29440 J = 29.4 kJ (3 s.f.)

Does anyone remember an old video game with a wrecking ball?
Does anyone know the name of an old video game (maybe 20 years ago) where you controled a wrecking ball and destroyed buildings with it? It might have been for the Apple II/e.
Answer: I hate you! :) This question has been driving me nuts for the last 24 hours. Obviously, the two above answers are not correct. I seem to vaguely recall a game like that. There was a game for the Mac called Hard Hat but that was more or less a kids game where you basically worked construction, including the very important wrecking ball. There's games like Construction Destruction that are more recent, but I cannot for the life of me come up with the game that's in my head.
Now, perhaps I just made this game up, but from what I remember you had to choose the height of the wrecking ball and trajectory and then based on math the ball would swing and hit buildings. It was a side perspective game. Dang, I wish I could help you. I asked my best friend and avid Apple gamer like me from our youth and he doesn't recall it at all. And we spent a BUNCH of time playing Apple games, including the almost first and still classic Lemonade Stand.
I hope you find your answer. I'll keep digging and if I find something before this closes I'll edit this post.

A wrecking ball swings at the end of a 11.9-m cable on a vertical circular arc. The crane operator manages to give the ball a speed of 10.7 m/s as the ball passes through the lowest point of its swing and then gives the ball no further assistance. Friction and air resistance are negligible. What speed vf does the ball have when the cable makes an angle of 24.7 ° with respect to the vertical?
Answer: When the ball is in its 24.7 deg. position the vertical distance it is below its point of suspension is
x = 11.9 cos 24.7
x = 10.8m
The distance it is above its lowest point is
h = 11.9 - 10.8
h = 1.1m
The potential energy of the ball at 24.7 deg. is
PE = M g h (M = mass of ball)
PE = M 9.8 1.1
PE = 10.8M
The kinetic energy at lowest point is
KE = 1/2 M v^2
KE = 1/2 M 10.7^2
KE = 57.2M
The kinetic energy at 24.7 is
KE2 = KE - PE
KE2 = 57.2M - 10.8M
KE2 = 46.4M
The velocity at 24.7 can be found by
KE2 = 1/2 M v^2
46.4M = 1/2 M v^2 (M cancels)
v = sq.rt.(2 x 46.4)
v = 9.6 m/s

A large wrecking ball is held in place by two light steel cables .If the mass of the wrecking ball is 4030 kg, what is the tension in the cable that makes an angle of 40.0 degrees with the vertical?If the mass of the wrecking ball is 4030kg , what is the tension in the horizontal cable?
Take the free fall acceleration to be = 9.80 .
Answer: There are 3 forces on the ball T1, T2 and mg. Because ball is at rest their vector sum is 0. If you draw this vector sum you would get right triangle with sides mg and T2 (horizontal) and hypothenuse T1 (inclined cable). From this triangle T1 = mg/cos(40) while T2 = mg*tan(40)

ssm A wrecking ball is hanging at rest from a crane when suddenly the cable breaks. The time it takes for the ball to fall halfway to the ground is 1.7 s. Find the time it takes for the ball to fall from rest all the way to the ground.
Answer: x(t)= (1/2) gt^2
Let x(t) = D= full distance to the ground
d/2= (1/2) gt^2
d= (9.81)(1.7)^2
(9.81)(1.7)^2= (1/2)(9.81)t^2
(1.7)^2= (1/2)t^2
(1.7)^2 / (1/2)= t^2
sqrt (2*(1.7^2))= t

Find the total time it takes for the ball to hit the ground?
A wrecking ball is hanging at rest from a crane when suddenly the cable breaks. The time it takes for the ball to fall halfway to the ground is 1.2s. Find the time it takes for the ball to fall from rest all the way to the ground.
Answer: The acceleration due to gravity is a=9.8 metres per second squared.
The integral of acceleration is velocity. v = 9.8 * t, metres per second, where v is the velocity at time t, and t is in seconds.
The integral of velocity is displacement (distance) s (t) = 9.8 / 2 * t ^2
So, s(1.2) = 4.9 * (1.2)^2 = 7.056 metres.
If this is half the distance, then the full distance is 14.112 metres.
The time, then, is t= sqrt(14.112 /4.9) = 1.697 seconds.
