Who is responsible for all the alarming misinformation and why are there no efforts to stop it from occuring?
It seems that everytime there is an extreme bad thing happening in the world we have to hear about its relation to AGW, only to find out later that nobody ever made that claim. Who is making this stuff up and why? Why after over a decade are we still hearing about bad weather and how much worse it is because of CO2? How can we educate the public so we view bad weather as a natural reoccurring phenomenon?
Answer: Given what has been in the climate news lately, http://rt.com/in-vision/tornado-texas-devastation-debris/
I suspect that Moe was motivated to ask this question by claims that recent tornadoes are due to global warming. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/04/28/noaa-scientist-rejects-global-warming-link-tornadoes/
Rather than act like there is no reason to be concerned, why not check the data: http://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2013/05/08/historical-tornado-records/
So the frequency of ef4+ (big) tornadoes has gone DOWN over the last few decades. It seems that Moe has a valid point. It seems that this latest anti-science propaganda stunt was delivered by an anonymous author affiliated with the environmental lobby publication "EcoEnquirer". http://www.ecoenquirer.com/tornado-intensity.htm
The absence of an author is a strong indication that the author does not want his name associated with the garbage being published. Hey Dook provides an excellent example in his nap.edu link that uses National Academy of Sciences letterhead but provides no author to take responsibility for the ridiculous quote that Hey Duke extracts from the article.
As for the thermometer data, even GISS does not provide data that should get anyone excited. http://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/nmaps.cgi?year_last=2013&month_last=4&sat=4&sst=3&type=trends&mean_gen=0112&year1=1900&year2=2012&base1=1951&base2=1980&radius=250&pol=reg

As for the safety record of the fossil fuel industry, it is excellent compared to the nuclear industry http://www.earthweek.com/2013/ew130524/ew130524b.html
that is being promoted by the Warmists. http://openyoureyesnews.com/2013/04/11/climate-fact-of-the-day-in-a-new-study-leading-global-warmist-james-hansen-pushes-nuclear-power-as-saving-more-lives-than-it-has-harmed/
I do not know where Joe Joyce got the idea that the IPCC studies the climate.
"The IPCC is a scientific body under the auspices of the United Nations (UN). It reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. It does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters." http://ipcc.ch/organization/organization.shtml#.UaIqjRC3E1I
This business of Mann being cleared of all charges is not even technically true. [1] The original hockey stick eliminated both the Little Ice Age, and the Medieval Warm Period, [2] and has been reproduced by using fraudulent methods in order to discover how Mann did it. [3] Here are your other "reproductions". [4] Notice how only Mann's green line fails to show the Little Ice Age and the Medieval Warm Period. Notice how seriously different the other curves look despite supposedly using Mann's methods.
Edit @Gary F: Pray tell: What evidence have you seen that anything going on climate wise other than radioactive fallout is outside of normal variance?
Edit @Joe Joyce: Sorry, I do appreciate the intelligent things you sometimes say, but limited space does limit me to giving you thumbs most times. In this case, I did not think that your trashing Moe, or your trotting out a fake exoneration of Mann were as egregious as your presenting the IPCC as a "scientific organization". Their mission is not to add anything to science except to give one opinion the pretense of authority. The whole notion that we should have a priesthood to tell us what to think about the evidence is about as anti-science by definition as you can get. It gets me that someone as obviously intelligent as you can miss just how nefarious that is, and fail to ask why.
Edit 2@Gary F: Thank you for the timely response. I agree that it does look like a step function. That indicates only that it has warmed. The question is what makes the amount of warming look abnormal [5] and anthropogenic.
Forget the red noise reproductions. Focus on what happens when one removes the ridiculous Gaspé extrapolation and applies the needed CO2 fertilization adjustment to full length of bristlecone pine series. The Little Ice Age, and the Medieval Warm Period come back. (page 14) [3] Also, consider what happens when unreliable tree ring data is eliminated. [6] Check out the historical data for the Little Ice Age. [7]
Edit @CR: Your link is ridiculously out of date (1987), and in no way reflects the current situation. It also fails to differentiate between relatively harmless exterior radiation and potent internal radiation. When 10% of animals get cancer, so do 10% of people. [8]

The Nation: Cut Short; The Revolution That Wasnt
IF the history of the Republican revolution were being written today, a single overarching question would have to be answered: Whatever happened to the promise of smaller government? DHS won't explain its order of 450 million hollow point bullets
04 April, 2012
http://anationinperil.com/?tg=dept-of-education
Social Security Administration and NOAA buy hollow-point bullets
"First, it was the Department of Education buying shotguns in March 2010. Then in March 2012 came news that the DHS ordered 450 million rounds of .40 caliber ammunition. The next month, April 2012, it was the USDA buying 300,000 rounds of ammo. In July 2012 came news that the DHS added high-powered battle rifles to its arsenal. On August 8, 2012, the DHS ordered over half a ton of high explosives. On August 10, 2012, the DHS put in an order for even more ammunition – hundreds of millions of rounds.
"Add the Social Security Administration and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to that growing list."
THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION HAS ORDERED NEARLY 500 MILLION ROUNDS OF HOLLOW POINT AMMUNITION
THAT'S MORE THAN THE NUMBER OF ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE USA
ONE BULLET FOR EVERY MAN, WOMAN, AND CHILD, WITH A HUNDRED MILLION BULLETS LEFT OVER IN CASE THEY MISS A FEW TIMES
HOLLOW POINTS ARE NOT USED FOR TARGET PRACTICE
HOLLOW POINTS ARE USED ***ONLY**** FOR KILLING PEOPLE
WHY DOES OBAMA NEED
***** HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF BULLETS ****
THAT CAN BE USED ONLY FOR KILLING PEOPLE?????
The liberal utopia.....

Government arms race kicks into high gear as DHS buys 2,700 armored vehicles for streets of America
March 04, 2013
'When DHS purchased 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition to be used domestically, inside the USA, and I said this looks like a government agency preparing for war with the American people, I was told, "That's crazy. The government would never do that."
'When DHS purchased 7,000 full-auto assault rifles to be used inside the United States, calling them "personal defense weapons" that could be used in urban warfare, I was once again told I was crazy for suggesting the government was arming up for war with the American people.
'Now DHS has retrofitted 2,717 "Navistar Defense" armored vehicles for service on the streets of America. Click here to see pictures and specs for this vehicle from the manufacturer's website.'

I am planning to apply for a one year english language assistants program in South Korea?
Hi everyone
I am currently studying at university and will graduate June 2013 with a degree. I am looking to apply for a one year english language assistants programme for August 2013 for one year which I feel would be an amazing opportunity!
The only dilemma, im currently with my boyfriend of over a year and havent told him I have been thinking about this yet. I would still want us to continue to go out and to make it work as a long distance relationship for a year if he would commit as well obviously.
Do you think this a good idea and do you think it is possible for a relationship to work whilst working abroad for a year?
Its something that Ive wanted to do for a long time, not teaching in particular but just to travel after my degree.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.. Thanks!
Answer: It is possible, but it's hard.
The only thing that makes it possible is good communication. Lots and lots and LOTS of communication. I don't mean calling/texting/Skyping your boyfriend every three seconds, but you do need to make an effort to talk frequently and about substantial stuff. Before you leave, this includes things like;
--How do we deal with the first few days? (these being the days when you may not have things like phone and internet services for whatever reason)
--Will visits be an option?
--How will we deal with the distance in general? (missing each other, keeping in contact, etc.)
and the touchiest questions...
--What do we do if someone cheats/eyes start to wander?
--What do we do if long distance is too hard for one or both of us? (this is good to talk about if you'd like to end things on a good note rather than a sour one if this happens. Hopefully the answer you both come up with is to talk about what's making it difficult before making any hasty decisions)
After you arrive and have things settled, it will be things like;
--When's the best time of day for us to talk?
--How much will it cost to text/call each other? (before leaving, he can check this out with his current phone company for his end of things, but you may have to wait until you've gotten yourself a phone in South Korea to know the full price of things)
And if he doesn't like the sound of an LDR or you're both too nervous about it, then you'll need to ask yourselves whether or not it makes sense to "put things on hold" for the year. That is, break up, keep in contact, and if the chemistry is there when you get home, pick things up again. This definitely isn't for everyone, so if it's an option, talk about it thoroughly. And if it for sure isn't for you, then you'll need to decide whether you're staying together until you leave (which might change his mind anyway thanks to the extra time to think about things and spend with you), or if a break-up is closer than you thought.
Also, be aware of the things you can do to keep in touch. Skype is a beautiful thing. The difference between only hearing your lover's voice and seeing them at the same time is surprisingly huge, and you don't notice it until you've Skype-d for the first time after a few days/weeks without doing so. It's crazy.
Things that make an LDR difficult are fairly obvious (ridiculous time difference, lack of physical contact, stress of being less aware of what the other is up to), but some things you wouldn't even think of before leaving.
For example, not being able to solidly imagine what your partner's surroundings are like can be oddly anxiety-inducing. And hearing about the new and exciting things your partner is doing without you (especially the things he'd/you'd normally do with you/him) and all the cool people they're meeting can bring up a sense of abandonment, especially at first. Be prepared for some inexplicable mood swings on either end and remember that you're both dealing with a huge change on opposite ends of the world.
And lastly, if it's something important to you, go for this opportunity whether he wants you to or not. Boyfriends are great, but an experience like the one you're looking for will more likely than not do even better things for you in the end, especially if the boyfriend you have can't let you go after something you've wanted for a long time. :)
I hope this helps even the slightest bit. I hope everything works well for the both of you and that you're able to make it to South Korea!

What are your MLB predictions for the 2013 season?
AL East
1. Baltimore Orioles
2. Toronto Blue Jays
3. New York Yankees
4. Boston Red Sox
5. Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa Bay could be one of those teams that some people may have under the radar as a team to beat even after the losses of Upton, Shields, and Wade Davis. Yes they still have Price, and Longoria, but other than that i dont see them with enough tools to contend with the much improved Blue Jays, Orioles, and the seemingly always in the playoffs during the wild card era Yankees.
AL Central
1. Detroit Tigers
2. Kansas City Royals
3. Chicago White Sox
4. Minnesota Twins
5. Cleveland Indians
Yes Francona will have the Indians playing a little harder but i feel until they add a few more pieces to their everyday lineup and another solid 2 or 3 starter they are still a couple years away from contending. I think Kansas City with what they have done adding 3 good quality starters in James Shields, Ervin Santana, and Wade Davis i think they have what it takes to contend. Kansas City had a starters ERA of 4.30 which was ranked 23 out of 30 teams with only 69 quality starts which ranked 28 out of 30, with those additions those numbers are sure to rise and i believe put them in contention to contend for the 2nd Wild Card.
AL West
1. Los Angeles Angels
2. Texas Rangers
3. Seattle Mariners
4. Oakland Athletics
5. Houston Astros
I think Texas makes the move and signs free agent Micheal Bourn to try and fill the void left by Josh Hamiltons departure. The Angels i think will be the team to beat if they can find some way to find some pitching from within their organization, with a lineup of Trout, Pujols, Hamilton, and Trumbo just to name a few they have the offense but with the lack of pitching i feel they will not have what it takes to make a deep run into October.
Play-in: Toronto vs Kansas City
Kansas City 3 Toronto 2
NL East
1. Washington Nationals
2. Atlanta Braves
3. Philadelphia Phillies
4. New York Mets
5. Miami Marlins
The losses of Chipper, Prado, and Hanson will hurt the Braves and i dont think the acquisitions of the Upton brothers and Jordan Walden from the Angels will outweigh the loss of leadership shown in Chipper and even Prado. I think Washington with the addition of Soriano to an already great bullpen will help them improve their chances of a deep run into October.
NL Central
1. St. Louis Cardinals
2. Cincinnati Reds
3. Pittsburgh Pirates
4. Milwaukee Brewers
5. Chicago Cubs
I think this will be the most exciting division in all of baseball with the Cardinals-Reds rivalry heating up and both of those teams predicted to be within the top 6 of the NL and then Pittsburgh and Milwaukee both having capable teams to make a run at the division or 1 of the 2 wild card spots
NL West
1. Los Angeles Dodgers
2. San Francisco Giants
3. Arizona Diamondbacks
4. Colorado Rockies
5. San Diego Padres
I think that trade from Boston finally starts to pay off for the Dodgers, i feel Gonzalez will hit .320 have 35+ HR, and drive in 120, Crawford will steal 30 bases for them and be named Comeback Player of the Year. The Giants will give them trouble all year long i do believe but fall just short of the division. The Diamondbacks yes under Kirk Gibson are a much better team than people think but i feel with the loss of Upton that will hurt them but Prados versatility and veteran leadership along with the acquisition of Heath Bell they wont struggle but i feel they fail to make the playoffs.
NL Wild Card Play-in Game
Giants vs Reds
Reds 4 Giants 3
ALDS
Detroit Tigers vs Baltimore Orioles; Detroit in 5
Kansas City Royals vs Los Angeles Angels; Kansas City in 5
ALCS
Kansas City Royals vs Detroit Tigers; Detroit in 7
Again the Tigers ride the hot hand of Verlander into the World Series. Verlander is named the ALCS MVP posting a 2-0 record with a 1.38 ERA and 19 Ks.
NLDS
Cincinnati Reds vs Los Angeles Dodgers; Cincinnati in 5
Washington Nationals vs St Louis Cardinals; St Louis in 4
NLCS
Cincinnati Reds vs St Louis Cardinals; Cardinals in 6
I like the Cardinals to ride the hands of Wainwright and Carpenter, and Motte and the bats of Holiday and Beltran into the World Series. NLCS MVP: Jason Motte 0-0 3 Saves 0.00 ERA 5 Ks
World Series
Detroit Tigers vs St Louis Cardinals; Cardinals in 6
I feel the Cardinals have what it takes to win their 12th World Series title this year Motte will have a stellar season and Wainwright will be a top 3 CY Young candidate.
Im eager to hear what you guys think will happen this season.
Answer: AL East
1. Rays
2. Jays
3. Yankees
4. Orioles
5. Red Sox.
The Rays still have plenty to win this division. Upton's production was more than replaceable, and the rotation has plenty of talent to make up for the Shields trade. Look for Longoria to be an MVP candidate. Jays added too much not to be looked at as contenders. Explosive offense should be better thanks to tablesetters Reyes and Cabrera. Yankees are getting a bit old, I think they barely miss the playoffs. Orioles will fall back to earth. 85 wins is what I'm expecting from them. Red Sox just don't have a winning team in this division.
AL Central
1. Tigers
2. Royals
3. White Sox
4. Indians
5. Twins
Tigers are by far the class of this division. Adding Hunter and getting V-Mart back should make this offense a bit more deep and balanced. Rotation is perhaps the best in the game, they just need a better pen. Royals are an improved team, but I don't think this is their year. Maybe next year. White Sox are mediocre, I'd expect somewhere between 78 and 85 wins. Indians are still weak, Francona can't make that huge of an impact, and the Twins are bad.
AL West
1. Angels
2. Rangers
3. Athletics
4. Mariners
5. Astros
Angels lost pitching, but they gained an MVP Candidate in Josh Hamilton. Rest of the division looks weaker. No way the Athletics repeat all the comebacks and walk offs of 2012. I think the Rangers have just enough to take a wild card spot, but losing Hamilton and not making any big moves hurts their world series chances for sure. Mariners added a bunch of corner outfield/first base/DH type guys. I like Morales and Morse enough offensively, but they hurt on defense. And the additions of Bay and Ibanez are barely worth noting. Ibanez's 2012 was a product of Yankee Stadium, nothing more. Astros are the Astros, no surprise here.
NL East
1. Nationals
2. Braves
3. Philles
4. Mets
5. Marlins
Nationals are probably the best team in the game now, adding Span just fills up one of their only holes. Lineup is solid from 1-8 and the starting rotation is up there with the best. Braves will win a wild card, but they aren't as good as some say. They added the inconsistent, underperforming Uptons, and lost Prado, Jones, Hanson, and Bourn. That isn't much of an improvement, if any. Phillies are simply aging, but they could still be a playoff contender. Mets traded Dickey, so I don't feel they have much of a chance, they'd be huge overachievers if they managed a .500 record. Marlins sold everyone, expect them to lose 100.
NL Central
1. Reds
2. Cardinals
3. Pirates
4. Brewers
5. Cubs
Reds still have the best team here, although a lot depends on Chapman. The Cardinals need good years from Carpenter and Wainwright if they want a playoff spot. Pirates don't have enough pitching in my books, and McCutchen's power will fade. Brewers will miss Corey Hart for a few months, I don't think they have enough depth to contend. Cubs still stink.
NL West
1. Giants
2. Dodgers
3. Dbacks
4. Padres
5. Rockies
This is a 2 team race in my books. Lincecum has to bounce back from a abysmal 2012 if the Giants want to beat out the powerhouse Dodgers. Dodgers on paper are the best team in all of baseball, but they played quite poorly after the deadline last year. They could be anywhere from a 85 win team to a 105 win team really, only time will tell. Dbacks will be an average team again, losing Upton isn't a huge deal since they got a quality player in Prado back. Adding Heath Bell doesn't really help, he looked done last year. Padres and Rockies stand next to no chance.
Wild Card Round
Jays over Rangers. Darvish gets hammered by Bautista and the Jays power offense.
Dodgers over Braves. Kershaw dominates the meager Braves lineup.
NLDS
Nationals over Dodgers in 4. Nationals bullpen is a huge difference in the series.
Giants over Reds in 5. Low scoring series, Romo saves all 3 games.
ALDS
Angels over Jays in 4.
Will be a high run scoring series, Trumbo hits 2 homers off Dickey and 3 in the series.
Tigers over Rays in 5. Verlander wins both starts against Price.
NLCS
Nationals over Giants in 5. The Giants can't mount any offense against Strasburg, Gonzalez, Haren, and Zimmerman.
Angels over Tigers in 6. Mike Trout shows everyone why he is the best overall player in baseball.
World Series
Nationals over Angels in 6. Jayson Werth wins the MVP, while Hamilton and Pujols slump for the Angels.
AL MVP Mike Trout
NL MVP Joey Votto
AL Cy Young Justin Verlander
NL Cy Young Stephen Strasburg
AL Comeback Player of the Year Victor Martinez
NL Comeback Player of the Year Tim Lincecum
AL Manager of the Year Joe Maddon
NL Manager of the Year Bruce Bochy
AL Rolaids Relief Man Joe Nathan
NL Rolaids Relief Man Rafael Soriano

Me&my boyfriend are going to Orlando fl beginning of June 2013 for two weeks and im wondering if therell be any fireworks display .. we went in June this year and we missed them all.. we would really love to see them!
Answer: As previous answerer said, there is some Disbey fireworks going on every nigt. If you mean outside of Disney, probably not. Universal and Sea World may also have some displays. If you don't want park admission you can see Magic Kingdom's display from a few hotels. Contemporary probably best though. That would require no admission! Hope I helped!

Is Mexico really setting the bar high for the Confederation Cup and World Cup?
Now that Mexicos youth have won a series of tournaments does it set the bar high for future tournaments?
Confederation 2013- Expecting Mexico to get Semi-Finals. 3rd*at least*
World Cup 2014- Quarter-Finals or Semi-Finals!
Answer: I believe they can get to the Semis in the Confederation Cup -- many Latin Teams are having down years with good players but no cohesion due to the stars playing in Europe. World Cup is a push ... They can achieve the Semis if lucky .... Europe overall still dominates since many players are closer for tournaments and the styles of Professional teams are unfortunately similar ....
I miss the old days when you could just look at the style of each Country as they play one another ..

Are mortgage interest rates likely to fall even further through 2012?
Im interested in refinancing but need to hold out until, unfortunately, Ive settled a lawsuit with a neighbor that affects my title insurance. I know theres no way to know for sure, but is there anything that would support continued low (or even lower) interest rates in the coming months? I dont want to miss my opportunity.
Answer: The Federal Reserve has already stated they are keeping short term interest rates near zero until 2013. Mortgage rates are largely based off the 10 year treasury bond, which the bond market indicates the rate by buying or selling the bonds. With all the problems going on in Europe with their sovereign debt crisis, traders around the world see the US Treasury bonds as the safest place to park their money. So, I don't see interest rates going up anytime soon, but they probably won't drop a whole lot, either!

LETTER FROM ESTONIA; A Land of Northern Lights, Cybercafes and the Flat Tax
Estonia, one realizes after a few days in the abiding twilight of a Baltic winter, is not like other European countries. The first tip-off is the governments cabinet room, outfitted less like a ceremonial chamber than a control center. Each minister has a flat-screen computer to transmit votes during debates. Then there is Estonias idea of an - Letter From Estonia on Baltic outpost that seems more like Silicon Valley than Europe, fired with free-market fervor and hurtling into high-tech future; Prime Min Andrus Ansip says Steve Forbes is genius for flat-tax proposal that was adopted by Estonia in 1994 as it sought to tranform itself from obscure Soviet republic to plugged-in member of global information economy; photo of prime minister in cabinet room equipped with computer for each minister (M) - By Mark Landler
Why are the Yankees tightening their purse strings while the Dodgers are spending like crazy?
I understand the obvious that they are two different organizations with different owners and different management. However, while the Yankees now say they cant(or wont exceed) the new cap in years to come, the Dodgers recklessly spend beyond it for the sake of making them relevant.
The Yankees are the greatest sports NAME in any sport period, they can afford anything and winning should know no price too high for them but all of a sudden it does, while someone else outspends them at the same time. It doesnt make sense.
Is it just that the baseball world has been blessed by the ascension of the moron who is Hal Steinbrenner or am I missing something? Please offer an explanation.
Answer: There are valid reasons why the Steinbrenner brothers are tightening the purse strings and cutting payroll. The Yankees have a LOT of old and busted up players with bloated contracts and they are looking at a huge luxury tax as per the current collective bargaining agreement.
For the past 20 years the Yankees have been willing to spend the money to field a championship team. Every off-season they are usually the biggest player in the free agent market. They would reload every year by replacing retired/departing free agents of their own with the biggest name in free agency. For the most part, it has worked out for them. The problem with acquiring talent through free agency is that when a player is eligible for the free agent market, they are 30 and over. Now it is 2013 and all it has all caught up with them.
The core group of players that came up with the Yankees in the 1990's have retired save for Jeter and Manny Rivera. Rivera is on his way out the door after this year. The rest of the roster is full of high dollar former free agents who are declining in skills. A-Rod is the poster child of the Yankees roster problems. He is going to get paid over $25 million to not play baseball this season. There are other players, like Texiera, and Granderson who will start the season on the DL.
The other reason why the Yankees are shedding payroll is the specter or a heavily increased luxury tax. For years the Yankees happily paid that tax as a cost of doing business. As of the latest collective bargaining agreement, any team that has been over the luxury tax threshold for over 10 consecutive years will see a significant increase in that tax. If the Yankees don't get under that threshold in the next couple of years, they are looking at a $50-70 million dollar tax bill. That is huge. Even for the Yankees.
The reason why the Dodgers are increasing their payroll at the same time is because new ownership brought in influx of money and they want to win now. Whether their big money moves they have made (Red Sox fire sale, Grienke signing, etc) will pay off is yet to be determined. It is more than likely they will be hit with a luxury tax after this season themselves.
Today they traded for Vernon Wells. Even though he is scheduled to make $49 million the next two seasons, the Angels are still on the hook for a lion share of the deal. If the Angels didn't agree pay a good portion of Wells' remaining contract, this deal would have never been done. The funny thing is that even at 34, Wells is probably the young pup on the team.

If Mexico makes the 2014 world cup, Ochoa will not even be in the bench?
I heard he rejected a call up. That is pretty much it for the diva Ochoa unless Chepo gets fired. Most likely Corona will be starting goalie from now on, if not it will be Talavera or Orozco. Ochoa wasnt starter for the 2011 Gold Cup, the 2012 Olympics, the 2013 Confederations cup (he came in the last game only), and the 2013 Gold Cup. It looks like he will miss 2014 as well. Maybe in 2018 in Russia?
Answer: Only the wilas want him lol
