How is Dwight Howard and Lakers winning without Kobe or Gasol?

Dwight Howard and the role players are winning games, it that the future for the Lakers?

Seems to me, that these games are a glimpse of Post-Kobe era?

Answer: When Dwight Howard came to L.A., the city expected him to have a consistent, positive impact on both ends of the floor and lead the Lakers in another race toward the NBA Finals.

His curious health record since the start of the 2012-13 campaign and unproven commitment to the Lakers long-term have to be major concerns for management at this point in the season. Enough so that parting with Dwight no longer sounds as far-fetched as it would have during the preseason.

All the recent Lakers trade buzz, including my own take on the matter, has featured the front office utilizing Pau Gasol as the biggest chip in a midseason trade.

Let's examine why trading Dwight is feasible and may even be a good idea for general manager Mitch Kupchak.

Dwight Howard is the best trade piece that the Lakers have in their arsenal.

At 27, he's young enough that every team in the NBA could feel comfortable viewing him as a centerpiece. He's dominant at his position, among the best three in the league. Howard can be a force on the glass, single-handedly alter the opponent's offensive game plan and get enough looks close to the hoop to easily register 20-plus points per game.

An encouraging 22-point, 14-rebound performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers has Dwight's stock, both with the Lakers and around the league, rising again. The only major concern is that his multitude of injuries will render him permanently less explosive than the player who led Orlando to the NBA Finals.

Since many of the rumors flying around about Lakers midseason trades have involved Gasol, let's also understand why trading Dwight makes more sense for the Lakers if they are trying to win it all this year.

First, Gasol is 32, slowed by sore knees and has yet to play up to his usual standards this season. On top of that, he is inked with the Purple and Gold for two more years (including this season) and is owed a whopping $38 million over that span.

Orlando will come to their senses and will realize getting legit players is better than nothing. New Jersey will give them a lottery pick, Brook Lopez, and most likely Anthony Morrow, and they will take on Turkoglu contract.

Answer: Yes, the Nets have the best package to give up. Brook Lopez, MarShon Brooks, which is the Rookie Leading scorer so far with 15.3 PPG, 2 1st Round Draft picks. I think that this is a better package than LA Lakers, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, and Draft Picks which are 30th overall or around there. And, the Lakers can't take on Hedo's contract. The Knicks, have completely nothing to offer, so no one, please even mention the Knicks and DH12. In Mid to late February when Brook Lopez is fully healed from his stress fracture in his foot, Dwight Howard will be a New Jersey (Soon to be, Brooklyn) Net.

Hell draw a double team, draw a foul, or score a bucket most of the time. It makes sense because the Lakers have all jump shooters besides Dwight Howard in Nash, Bryant, World Peace, and Jamison. They will be wide open for shots when Dwight draws the double team. Kobe and DAntoni need to let Dwight be the main guy on the team. Hes 27 and Kobe is 34. If they want Dwight to re-sign they need to do this. Kobe being the main guy isnt working anymore, hes scoring 29 per game and the Lakers are under .500. The Magic won 50 games every year and made it to the Finals going through Dwight Howard, and they had far less talent than the Lakers. Answer: Well, that's a great possibility, especially because all the rumors say that Dwight's looking at Los Angeles with great interest to be in a Purple & Gold jersey.

Answer: I'm confident that Dwight Howard will definitely win the dunk contest this year. He does seem very relaxed and on Jim Rome is Burning, during an interview he said that he had something in store for us all. How do you think Dwight Howard would do if he had to play against Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Olajuan?

this era for Centers in the NBA weak and Dwight Howard is clearly the best with Yao Ming being the only Center that can compete with him.

In the 90s Ewing and Olajuan were the best.

So do you think Dwight Howard would fair agaisnt Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Olajuan?

Answer: Defensively, I think he could handle Ewing a whole lot easier than he could Olajuwon. Olajuwon just has too many moves in the low post. Ewing, while very effective, was a lot more predictable.

Offensively, he'd have a hard time getting good shots off against Ewing, who is a lot stronger than Howard. Howard doesn't have a lot of lower body strength, and Ewing could basically shove him out beyond the 3 point line if he wanted to.

Olajuwon probably wasn't quite as physically strong as Ewing, but he's at least as strong in the lower body as Howard, and again, Howard would have some difficulty trying to score on Olajuown, because Hakeem was a great defender.

If Howard had as much trouble as he did against Gasol and Bynum, he definitely wouldn't be able to do a whole lot against Ewing or Olajuwon. Give him a few years and maybe so, but at this point, both guys would dominate Howard, because Howard's game is SO limited and predictable.

How would Dwight Howard do if he played in the NBA during the 90s?

Answer: In the early 90's I think he'd average a couple more points because the game was more free flowing. In the late 90's he'd be about the same or average even less points because the game became extremely slow.

He would average close to 4 blocks per game though because the def. 3 second rule wasn't in yet.

BQ: Howard has been great for about 4 years now. Bynum has been injured most of his career and is just starting to play well. Laker fans feel like Howard is a sure thing and Bynum has risky knees.

Can the lakers get Dwight Howard by trading only Gasol or Bynum?

Okay, so, Kobe is getting old, and he is still all star material, but he cant shoot like he used to. They need to get Dwight Howard to help him, but my question is: Can they get Dwight by only trading Pau Gasol or Andrew Bynum, and their $8.9 million trade exception? Or can they only trade Gasol or Bynum, the $8.9 million trade exception, and a guard like Kapono or Metta World Peace?

Answer: Yes there is a pretty big possibility of that happening now that Brook Lopez is out for the Nets. The Magic do know they are still a playoff team but they also know they are not a championship team right now and they just made bad moves in the past couple years that is preventing them from bringing in someone to help Dwight. So the closer the deadline comes the more its going to be talked about even though they should look at all offers possible right now because inching closer to the deadline they know they have to trade Dwight rather than go to the playoffs maybe make the second round and then lose Dwight in the summer for basically nothing. So i do say that the Lakers low ball the Magic come trade deadline and i think they have a big chance of just losing Bynum with some Draft picks and money plus the trade exception, at the end its going to come down the the management of Orlando but having a star like Dwight he's gonna choose where he wants to go plain and simple. And also Mitch Kupchak knows what he is doing he is a very smart man, so who ever is doubting the Lakers early, I wouldnt... :D

Im laughing at all those delusional fans who actually thought Dwight Howard was a great basketball player?

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was the only guy in the section who called Dwight Howard overrated, and said he could never carry a team to a championship. Also talking about how Bynum was much better, and it isnt even close, and this was WAY BEFORE his trade talks, or his Lakers arrival. It was in the 2010 playoffs, when no one would ever think he would leave Orlando.

Who is the better Center talent and all-around wise Dwight Howard or Patrick Ewing?

In other terms when Dwight Howard retires do any of you think he will be or already is better than Ewing ever was?

Answer: This is the most disrespectful thing I have ever seen as a New York Knicks fan and not to be one sided, but Ewing is vastly greater than DH12 and will always remain so. No offense to DH12 because he is truly the most dominant force @ the Center position today, but he is seriously lacking in the offensive end and does not have many low post moves. Ewing has taught him well and Pat was a hell of a player 1 of the greatest Centers of all-time and he does have the greatest jump shot of any Center in NBA history and by far has a better offensive game.

Ewing also had the ability to put the ball on the floor and create his own offense and that is not a DH12 strong suite. DH12 is stronger than Ewing and may be a better rebounder, but he is not a better defender at all. Ewing was the ultimate player he possessed every asset a player could have and he has way more heart than DH12 has. Ewing was the ultimate warrior.

If Howard wins a championship it still does not mean anything cause remember when Shaquille O'Neal was the most dominant Center in the NBA and all the greats were in decline mood and no one could touch him? Well that is when he won his 3 rings cause there was absolutely no competition for him to go up against. Before, this as dominant as Shaq was he was kicked around by Hakeem in the NBA Finals in 95' and Ewing and Mourning took it to him on a nightly basis because they were more skilled.

Unlike, Shaq DH12 has no competition in his early years of dominance. The only superstar Center besides him in the NBA is Yao Ming - who is also more skilled than DH12 the rest are average at best and just plain suck compared to what Ewing had to face in the 90's @ his position in Olajuwon, a rising O'neal, Mourning, David Robinson, Dikembe Mutombo, and Rik Smits. Those all were highly talented players at the epicenter of greatness for the Center position in NBA history. Therefore, DH12 has much less competition to expose his dominance and win a couple of titles if he ever does in the long run and like Shaq and his 3 peat he would have the unfair advantage that no one can touch him.

Not to mention DH12 had never got the opportunity to play in an era where a team could win 60+ wins and not even break a 2 seed, like in Ewing's era and he did have to go against the M.J./Pippen duo and a talented Bulls team. The 90's Knicks are supremely better than what the Magic are now and if it wasn't for the Bulls 6 rings Ewing could have easily taken a team to many rings, so winning a ring means nothing DH12 would never be Ewing.

Answer: it will be hard and reports I've read say that the nets are focusing on resigning deron and not focusing on dwight howard. the only chance the nets might have to get howard via trade is if they can sign then trade brook lopez along with marshon brooks and a couple 1st round picks and even with that i don't think they will be able to acquire dwight. they may have a chance to get dwight if williams signs with dallas, that means the johnson trade doesn't happen which will leave them a chance to get dwight if he becomes a free agent next year.
