Answer: The current rate of extinctions is 1,000 times more than normal. Called the Holocene extinction event. The loss of the red panda, and indeed loss of much, much biodiversity on our planet has negative consequences overall in direct and indirect ways in terms of how fertile land is or climate and so on. How could the loss of biodiversity change the climate is more indirect as many trees in rainforests are chopped the rate of absorption of CO2 diminishes, and so on.
It is not really the loss of one individual species that kills us but the cumulative affect of losing numerous species.

Answer: i found this info in encyclopedias i have. red pandas live in eastern nepal, southern china, western china, western laos, and small bits of other countries northwest of china. they live in regular temperate forests, with bamboo, they live in tropical highland, and temperate bamboo forests. and although they are not totally endangered, their area in somewhat or completely poluted.

What is the difference between a Red Panda and a regular Panda?
Is a red panda really red?
Answer: Red pandas have reddish fur. They are also smaller, so they are called lesser pandas. The black and white panda is called the giant panda. The giant panda has a stumpy tail, like the other bears to which they are closely related. The giant panda occupies a position at the base of the bear family tree, so they are a sort of primitive bear, with lots of modifications on the bear body plan to allow them to specialize on bamboo.
The lesser panda has a tail, and it looks more like a raccoon than a bear. The lesser panda is more closely related to raccoons, weasels and skunks than to the giant panda. The giant panda and the bears are more closely related to seals and sea lions than they are to the weasels, skunks, and lesser panda. It was once thought that the lesser and giant pandas are each other's closest relatives, but it turns out that they are only convergently similar because they both specialize on eating bamboo. The lesser panda is able to digest bamboo more efficiently than the giant panda, so it is more active and and it spends less time eating and sleeping.

Answer: Red pandas belong to the order Carnivora, which would make one assume that they are carnivores (eat meat). However, they are primarily herbivores like their cousins the Giant Panda. They do supplement their bamboo diet with other things - bird eggs, small mammals, insects, berries, fruits, other plants - when it can get them. Eating a variety of foods is adaptive - the red pandas can still get energy and nutrients even if their preferred food is unavailable.
Like the Giant Panda, red pandas have developed a "thumb", however in giant pandas this thumb is used to hold bamboo so they can munch on it, whereas in the red panda it is used to get a better grip on the trees in which the red panda lives. This "thumb" has been a source of contention when examining the relationship between these two species - for a long time they were grouped together under the same genus, but recently the red panda was moved to its own genus and its own family - Ailuridae.

Answer: It's isn't that they need a lot of 'ground' territory, but they need trees. They are not very large, but could probably live in a smaller area as long as there were plenty of trees for them to climb.
They aren't very active in the day, but at night they can be pretty active. However, the activity amount (and therefore the area needed) varies with each animal b/c they are all different.
Its diet consists of about two-thirds bamboo, but they also eat berries, fruit, mushrooms, roots, acorns, lichen, grasses, and they are known to supplement their diet with young birds, fish, eggs, small rodents, and insects on occasion. In captivity, however, they will readily eat meat.
