How to retain the heat energy in hot water tank of Solar Water Heater in Rainy season?
Is there any method so that, a heat energy storing material can be kept inside the tank which will store the heat energy for the whole day. And if temperature falls down in rainy season, it will add some heat into water. This would help to maintain the warm temperature of water. Please, answer if you know such technology. Thank You.
Answer: paint white heat resistant , heat reflective paint from inside and outside.. cover the tank with something fluffy like gunny bags or wool or clothes .. air shud be trapped air is a bad cinductoe of heat !! if u can afford it cover it wid white thermocol..

Why would the heat stop working in half the rooms in my house?
I have electric heat but no vents. I was told it heats by hot water going through the ceiling.
Oh yes, there is a thermostat in every room.
Oh, there is a thermostat in every room.
Answer: Is your house more than one zone, in other words do you have 2 thermostats or 1 that control all the heat. If any of that water is going through a dead space, or without being insulated the probability of it freezing is very real.Unless air got into the system somehow that is another possibility. The third scenario is you are losing water someplace, my suggestion is to start at the heat source and follow it from there.

How long does it take for heat tape to thaw frozen pipes?
Our heat tape got unplugged and now our pipes are frozen. Does anyone know how long it takes for the heat tape to thaw out frozen pipes?
The heat tape came unplugged, and it has now been plugged back in for about 5 hours now and still nothing. Im beginning to wonder if the heat tape "died" which is why Im trying to figure out how long it takes to thaw the frozen pipes.
Answer: It will take days. Heat tape is for preventing freezing, not thawing out frozen pipes. It takes a lot of heat to melt ice.

How many joules of heat are required to change the heat of iron?
The specific heat of iron metal is 0.450 J/g-K. How many joules of heat are necessary to raise the temperature of a 10.0 gram piece of iron from 33 C to 55 C?
Please help with this chem question!!
Answer: Heat energy required = [mass] * [specific heat] * [change in temperature]
You just need to double check that you are being consistent with your units.
mass = 10 g
specific heat = 0.450 J/g-K { = 0.450 J/g-°C since the kelvin and celcius degree are the same size}
change in temperature = (55°C - 33°C) = 22°C
Heat required = (10 g * 0.450 J/g-°C * 22°C) = 99.0 J

How can the specific heat be characterized for a material that heats up quickly?
How can the specific heat be characterized for a material that heats up quickly?
a. It has a low specific heat.
b. It has a high specific heat.
c. It is impossible to make this judgment.
Logically thinking, if it heats up quickly, it probably also cools down quickly, which means it has a low specific heat.
However, I have never found physics to be logical. So.
Please help?
I really need the answer to the this question. Itll make the rest of the questions in my assignment so much easier.
Answer: b. It has a high specific heat.
Think of it as heat conductivity. If it is high it is a good conductor of heat. Fiberglass insulation and air ar NOT good conductors of heat.

How to find out why our heat is not heating?
Our heat seem to have stopped heating in our house. (Central heat & air) This is the first time we have ever had a problem with the heat, its always the AC! The only thing I could think to check was the pilot light under the water tank... Are there other common cause I can check?
Answer: If your central heat is of the forced air variety, you should be able to hear the blower engage a bit after the burner lights. If the blower does not run, often the V belt has broken or slipped from the pulley. A squealing noise often precedes V belt failure. Other less common problems include a worn blower motor, various valves and relays.
If your heat is of the hot water variety, gas and burner controls, and circulation pumps could be the culprit. A heating tradesman should be consulted.

What is the difference between specific heat value and specific heat capacity?
Specific heat capacity is the quantity of energy required to raise the temperature, correct?
Specific heat value defined as (J/(C x g) )
So if asked to calculate the energy change of the surroundings in an experiment, you would use the formula above?? (J/C x g) )
If that is correct, then what do you do in order to find the specific heat of a metal? Is it a different formula? Did I do everything wrong?
Answer: Specific heat capacity refers to 1 kg of a substance, i.e. energy needed to raise a temperature of 1kg substance by 1 degree Celsius. (energy = mass x specific heat capacity x temperature change).
While, heat capacity is simply energy needed to raise a temperature by 1 degree Celsius, irrespective of how much substance there is. (energy = heat capacity x temperature change).
As to when you use which formula depends on the wording of the question. Too often it will be the energy = mass x specific heat capacity x temperature change, for example when a certain amount of substance absorb or emits energy! In this later case, energy will be lost to the surrounding or it could be absorbed by certain amount of water in a beaker!
Another clue is that the question may give you the value of specific heat capacity of a substance - in which case you're expected to use it in your calculation.
Sorry for not being too precise!

How to heat a 170 square meters open room without central heating?
I would like to know how can I heat up to 22 Degrees room area of 170 square meters. I have tried with 25 kw wood stove and it didnt work. I have even tried the wood stove with the blower instilled inside the stove, but still couldnt heat it up. Any suggestions.
Answer: i heat my 100 square meters open room with a cockle stove of 7 kw with an ancillary heating , but my walls are done of hollow bricks and a thick layer of clay. so my additional floor heating is never working.
perhaps you must isolate your walls or look for a thick iron stove and a long iron stove pipe. that works a lot.

'The Heat' Is a Buddy Movie Without Any Guys - NYTimes.com
1 day ago ... The Heat,” directed by Paul Feig, is a cop-buddy movie, but the buddies are women, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.
How much more energy is used to heat an apt using just auxillery heat strips versus using the whole system?
I have a heat system that is electric which has the heat strips and a heat pump on the outside but due to coil issues right now Im fully dependent on the heat strips. I wondering what impact does that have on the electric bill.
Answer: The difference is fairly huge. Your heat strips rely on electric resistance heat, which is to say that you have to buy 1 kilowatt of electricity of power to get 1 kilowatt of heat (approximately 3,400 btu). Conversely, a typical air source heat pump which uses 1 kilowatt of power will provide between 3 and 4 kilowatts of heat (10,200 to 13,600 btu) on a 10 degree C day.
Spend money to repair the heat pump - it's money well spent.

How much heat does it take to bring a 3.4 kg iron skillet from 20 degrees to 130 degrees?
If the heat is supplied by a stove burner at the rate of 2.0 kW, how long will it take to heat the pan?
Answer: U = c·m·∆T
U is energy in Joules to heat the material by ∆T
c is specific heat of the material in J/kg·K
m is mass in kg, ∆T is temperature change in ºC
specific heat of Iron is 452 J/kgC
U = 452 J/kgC x 3.4 kg x 110ºC = 169000 joules
This assumes no heat loss to the air, which is not possible.
2 kW = 2000 watts = 2000 joules per second
169000 joules / 2000 joules per second = 84.5 seconds

How much heat does it take to bring a 3.4 kg iron skillet from 20 degrees to 130 degrees?
If the heat is supplied by a stove burner at the rate of 2.0 kW, how long will it take to heat the pan?
Answer: The specific heat of a material tells you how much heat is necessary to raise the temperature of a material. In the absence of a phase change (melting/freezing, boiling/condensing, which we don't have here),
Cp * delta T * m = delta Q
where Cp is the specific heat capacity of the material, delta T is the change in temperature of the material, m is the mass of the material, and delta Q is the total energy going into and out of the material.
Your problem statement gives you the mass, and it gives you the change in temperature (you need units, but I assume those were supposed to be degrees Celsius). It doesn't give you the energy going into the skillet, but it does give you the power going into the skillet. Power is just energy divided by time, so we could write
Cp * delta T * m = (Q/t) * t
Note that when we do this, we're neglecting any other energy flowing in the system - we're assuming that the pan isn't losing energy to the environment, it's only gaining energy from the stove burner.
So, we've got delta T, m, Q/t, and we want to solve for t. The only thing we need is the specific heat of iron. Wikipedia lists it as 0.450 J/(g * K). Now you can solve for t, plug those values in, and get the solution. But remember, in reality, some of the energy going into the skillet will be transferred to the environment, so the real answer will be somewhat longer than what you calculate (it becomes a much more complicated problem when you have to deal with convection, because the heat flow is a function of temperature).
I hope that helps!

How does heat and work increase the internal energy of a system?
How does heat and work increase the internal energy of a system?
Answer: internal energy is kinetic energy + potential energy.
doing work on an object enables the molecules to move faster, increasing KE.
It also enables the molecules to move further apart, increasing PE
thus, increasing work done, will increase internal energy.
Similarly increasing temperature and supplying heat will also cause the molecules to move faster and further apart, having the same effect.
