Should Edward Snowden be extradited and charged with treason?

Im someone who says yes; even if you dont like what a government does, you dont jeopardize national security/stability by recklessly doing something along the lines that Snowden, Bradley Manning, Julian Assange, did. Basically, its unacceptable to become a martyr at the expense of others. Martyrdom is supposed to be utterly selfless; Snowden is anything but.

Answer: In my opinion, it is appropriate that they have requested extradition. While he most likely did not leak the existence of government capabilities, they have stated he is also suspected of leaking specific information that was not approved.

At minimum they will need to review what he has to say, as testimony. Hopefully, the two countries can arrange an extradition agreement--but how they go about that is between the government officials.

What makes anyone believe that the government will tell us the truth about Snowden?

Once again, the government is caught red-handed doing something wrong and needs to discredit the whistle-blower. Snowden IS a hero. Its a David and Goliath tale.

Can someone explain who this Edward Snowden guy is and why hes all over the news?

Im a 17 year old guy so I apologize if Im clueless on this situation. Anyways, I just saw the evening news and they brought up this Edward Snowden guy. Apparently, hes a whistleblower and is exposing the corrupt government and now is hiding in Hong Kong. Can anyone go into further detail about this story and the possible implications?

Answer: He did something similar to what Julian Assange and Wikileaks did. Exposed criminal activity within the military only this guy made public the NSA illegal spying on Americans here and abroad. He went to Hong Kong to avoid getting arrested in the U.S. but I imagine the U.S. pressured the Chinese authorities to let them arrest him on foreign soil like they did with Viktor Boot. Anyway, Snowden apparently is in hiding somewhere and was hoping for asylum in Hong Kong which is part of China now. Maybe Julian Assange should have gone to Hong Kong to be safe from persecution. Hong Kong does have an extradition agreement with the U.S. as does Britain and Sweden in the Assange case.

Edward Snowden: how the spy story of the age leaked out | World ...

Jun 12, 2013 ... The full story behind the scoop and why the whistleblower approached the Guardian.

What is the mindset of those who are condemning Edward Snowden?

Do they think that wed all be better off not knowing the extent of the government surveillance going on? That we just go on without any knowledge about this stuff and never have any sort of public debate about it? Supposedly stuff like this has been going on for at least 6 or 7 years. The government was never going to "open a public debate" on whether they should do this or not.

I dont understand the mentality of someone who thinks wed be better off if people like Snowden never brought this stuff to light.

Moreover, In Joseph Hellers novel Catch-22, Snowden was the tail-gunner who dies in Yossarians arms after getting hit by anti-aircraft fire while on a bombing run over the French city Avignon. Americans do you consider Edward Snowden as traitor or a Hero?

Im Polish and I live in Poland.

When Poland was still a communist country, Colonel Ryszard Kuklinski, who was a staff officer, decided to give the CIA information about the dislocation of the Polish Army and the Red Army, some consider him a hero that thanks to him, World War III not started.
This does not change the fact that an officer promised loyalty to his country and that will keep the military secrets.

I want to know what Americans think about Edward Snowden, after all, as the intelligence officer, promised he would keep secrets, it can be argued that he did it for the good of the citizens of his country, in this case the United States, but he vowed he would keep secrets. What kind of officer that breaks the oath?

Atlantic City Aiming Higher As Casinos Slip

Making money used to be so easy in this doleful seaside resort, at least if you were in the casino business: Efficiently shuttle a steady parade of day-tripping grandparents clutching rolls of quarters through midmarket gambling halls, and success was all but assured. But now casino operators and politicians here are worried about a fall in revenue - Casino operators hope to transform Atlantic City into world-class entertainment destination; new casinos in Pennsylvania and slot machines at Yonkers Raceway are cutting into revenues of Atlantic City casinos; their operators hope to emulate Las Vegas, offering fine food, big-name performers and other amenities to lure younger, more free-spending tourists from among roughly 50 million people who live within days drive away; city is in midst of its biggest building boom since 1980s; casino operators have invested more than $4 billion there over past five years, and plans are on drawing board for at least two more megacasinos, each costing more than $1 billion; photos; chart (L) - By GARY RIVLIN

Why did Snowden go to China after leaking documents?

I am sure the Chinese Government is happy to have a person that worked with the CIA and the NSA their country. There are so many other places that he could have gone to, why China? I have been to Hong Kong and it is a very short ferry ride or drive to mainland China. Mr. Snowden should be more concerened about Agents from Iran, North Korea or even Russia than he is about what the U S Government will do. I do not think that he truly understands that the little that he had access to is a very, very small piece. That peice will in a small way aid those that want to attack the United States and Americans in other countries.

Answer: He went to Hong Kong, big difference.

China controls Hong Kong, but allows things there under the treaty with the UK that it doesn't allow in mainland China. You can get Facebook, youtube and yahoo works perfectly fine as does google. Not in mainland China.

Maybe he went there hoping that he could get the best of both worlds, protection from China and protection FROM China. Both ways. But it looks like he won't.

Is Snowden hiding in a foreign country because he knows what our government is capable of doing?

Up till now its always been the other way around. People from communist countries used to come to America because they knew what their countries were capable of. Slot Machines for the Young and Active

What will happen to Snowden when he gets caught?

Reading about the Edward Snowden situation at the minute, just wondering, what sort of punishment will he face when he inevitably is captured by the U.S? Is it a life sentence he will most likely be facing? Thanks

Answer: I, and many others, hope nothing happens to Snowden. He's a hero for leaking that information to us, it was vital. He's not a traitor...surely we have the rights to know about it. He spoke with his mouth, and didn't attack. He's not a criminal but other people may think he is. Now that he has apparently been a "traitor" to the US, they'd probably put him in jail. I hope not though, this man deserves a medal.

Why is the media trying to glorify NSA whistle blower Edward Snowden?

What Edward Snowden has done is treasonous and the kind of thing a spy would do. His actions do not help America in any way.

Its a serious thing. Just like when you are working for a company, there are certain trade secrets, likewise, working at the higher levels of government requires special security clearance and the people that work there, including Barack Obama and people like Rand Paul know that there are large levels of information that they simply cannot speak about, because its classified.

Barack Obama, the Democrats and even the Republicans have been completely leaderless and confused about this whole issue. It doesnt matter what the media talks about, they dont know anything and neither does the general population, so what they talk about it is not important. However, if Snowden had knowledge of classified information and is now abroad possibly sharing this to international nations (like China or Russia), then thats a form of spying and he has to be prosecuted for it.

Its a form of sabotage to reveal classified information and disrupt the activities of our government and waste millions of taxpayer dollars the way Snowden has already done.

Answer: You seem to be in the minority, judging from the tongue lashing you are getting from responders.

Do you think it's okay for "Big Brother" to know everything that everyone does? Whether or not they actually do it is not really even the issue. The fact is that they have the capability and will use it whenever they wish. That's a pretty dangerous thing and most Americans are against that.

Yes, by this time we all know that Washington is one lie after another. Whoever does not know that is really asleep or naive. Flag-waving is not patriotism. Caring about the freedom of every single person in this country and speaking up to defend it certainly is.

Do you find it hilarious how Republicans are torn between calling Snowden a Traitor and a Patriot?

Republicans first called the NSA leaker Edward Snowden a Patriot while trying to pin point it on President Obama. But when they realized that it exposes the risks, the cost, and irresponsibility of private companies like Booze Allen Hamilton, they then call him a Traitor.

Answer: I'm a conservative and I'm happy Snowden exposed the administration's fascist tactics. I've never wavered from that opinion. As usual you are wrong. You should see if there is any money in being this wrong this often.
